Have some furniture, not sure where to start to find out any informaiton about it.  It is solid wood, with a lady carved with her hair.  No known markings on who made it, or when.  Any advice on direction would be greatly appreciated.

It has been recovered in the past, the original had horse hair and some leather on it.

It looks like it's mahogany, probably American, & dates from 1840 to 1880. The value depends to a great extent on the quality of the carving & the condition of the upholstery. The carving on yours appears not to be highly detailed, but it's not bad either. The carved feet add to the interest, but, again, they're not highly detailed. As a set they'd probably be priced retail in my area, Colorado, at about $1,200. Mahogany is better appreciated on the east coast, and I can see this set priced at maybe $1,800 there.Gary

Just for kicks, I sent the photos of the furniture through Google's image search, trying to see if anyone has ever posted a picture of these items before.  It didn't turn up anything that matched, so I cropped the image to only show the area of the the carved lady.  The results of that image search were quite surprising and rather graphic, but yielded no helpful info.

Does anything about the material on the bottom or the back, give any clues?   You have great pictures of the front of the items, but the non-facing details can hold just as many clues.  :)
