Antique store closing after 38 years in Memphis

    “I will be 83 years old Sept. 2,” Dale Buckley, owner of Buckley’s Antiques, said. “I’ve been in it so long, it’s just time to close down.”

    Buckley plans on keeping the Midtown store open through December and sell all the goods at half price.

    Buckley’s passion for antiques began in 1959 when he moved to Glasgow, Scotland and discovered that it was more economical to furnish his home with antiques he discovered at local auctions. After attending the University of Glasgow, he moved back to Henderson, Tennessee, where he taught accounting at Freed-Hardeman and ran a small antiques shop out of his home.

    “Then I decided to retire from teaching and come to Memphis and open an antique shop at 1965 Madison Ave.,” Buckley said. “And I’ve been here ever since.”
