      animal figurines and steins

Does anyone have any information on these 2 animal figurines and 2 steins?  My father brought them back from Europe at the end of WWII.  The dogs have a stamp on the bottom that I think is RosenHale Germany.  I can't make out the stamp on the steins.  Thanks.

      Hi Mary,

Your two doggies were made by the well-known German porcelain manufacturer Rosenthal.

The Borsoi was designed in 1913 by Max Valenthin and the Dachshund puppy is signed at the bottom with the name of designer Th. Kärner.

Both figurines were almost certainly made in different sizes, and for quite some time, but they are still quite collectable, and therefore have a certain value.

Judging by the marks, I think your dogs were both made before 1933.

The factory has lots of useful information about their products on its site.

      https://www.rosenthal.de/en/cms/company/our-service/brand_marks/rosenthal/

I'm afraid I can't read the marks on your steins either, so I can't help you with those, but I hope I've been able to give you at least a starting point for your search concerning your Rosenthal figurines.

      Best regards,

      Deirdre

Thank you Deirdre.  You've been a big help.  The markings on the steins are hard to read.  I believe one says "R. D. ???" and numbered 1534.

      Hello Mary,

I have been doing a bit of digging about those jugs and I think the letters may be R.D.Z.

In that case they stand for Rudolf Ditmar Znaim.

This site seems to have pictures of the same marks as the ones on your jugs.

      http://www.steinmarks.co.uk/pages/pv.asp?p=stein347

I could not find any jugs like yours on the web, but if you google "Rudold Ditmar Znaim" and then search for pictures, it throws up loads of results.

I think we may have made life more difficult for ourselves when we thought they may be steins, because your father brought them from Germany.

It has nothing to do with steins. They are just a lovely pair of art nouveau jugs.

I hope you'll enjoy them for many years to come, because they are gorgeous.

      Have a lovely Sunday!

      Best,

      Deirdre
