Basic Information:
  • Thought it was time to form a group for input by store owners and vendors/dealers on how we can stop shoplifters, thieves, bad check artists and influence our elected politicians to protect us. I have also started a yahoo group for store owners only where we can report any incident to the group and an instant email will go out to all members alerting them. Its time for Stores to stand up for their Vendors, Dealers, and Customers and fight back. Any suggestions on how to further protect our merchandise is appreciated.

Mike Cook: Just learned that a lot of high dollar glass ware that has been stolen from some of our area shops is ending up in auctions 75 miles away.  Important for all stores to coordinate and work together.

Claude Leaman Have been in retail 31 years. You will never run out of thieves. In our fairly safe area two dealers were recently killed, the stuff is not worth that. However as one said prevention is the key.

Mike Cook: Prevention - One thing I have learned is that prevention is way better then catching them.  We have made it a point that all employees look each customer in the eye and welcome them to the store.  The thieves don't like attention.  When two or more come i...  more

Acorn Hill Antiques Mall clerks make sure you watch those customers with baby strollers.... Before surveillance cameras, we had a 18 inch tall Roseville vase swiped out of our booth and taken out the door disguised as the "sleeping baby" in a stroller.

Jim: Keep in mind it's a federal offense to monitor sound in any area without posted notification.  Comes under the heading of bugging or eavesdropping.  You can do video without notice in public areas, not audio.  Care to post what cameras you're trying?
