    I have been doing a bit of digging about those jugs and I think the letters may be R.D.Z.
    In that case they stand for Rudolf Ditmar Znaim.
    This site seems to have pictures of the same marks as the ones on your jugs....  more

    Thank you Deirdre.  You've been a big help.  The markings on the steins are hard to read.  I believe one says "R. D. ???" and numbered 1534.
