Description
This week's show is entitled, "The Importance of Provenance," but maybe it would be better to say "The Joy of Provenance." If you like antiques, you probably enjoy history, and what could be more interesting than researching your own possessions to establish a line of ownership thru the years? So, I've taken a few pieces that I own and some that I see for sale in the Mall, and show how I was or was not able to establish ownership back to when the pieces were made. In every case the attempt was worth the effort, even if the chain is broken in some places. I do this more for myself than for any future owner, but I do think that buyers enjoy knowing the most they can about whatever they buy. I did a show a few years ago entitled, "People Buy Stories," which is in the Videos section, and in it I give a few examples of how histories can give value to objects.
