Identifying 19th Century Prints

  • Oftentimes several runs of prints were produced over the years all "after" some one original painting. That can make identifying the specific print run difficult, but often necessary in order to properly value the item. For instance, there must have been at least 10 different print runs all based on the original Lansdowne Portrait of George Washington, and it's that example that I use in this week's program. Prints in the various print runs of comparable quality can vary in price from $150 or so to more than $1,200. It's important to know what you're looking at!
