This is our Bargain Show for July. Ever seen a Gambler's Holdout? I hadn't, and I would never have guessed what is was. Some of this month's bargains are recognizable: vintage firemen's hydrant wrenches, an Asian (Chinese?) chest, a Masonic lodge lectern,...

In this show we profile a heretofore unknown self portrait done by Frida Kahlo in 1946. It's an oil on canvas, and about 30" x 24" sight. It is signed & has a remarkable inscription on the back of the canvas. It was purchased by the current owner's grandf...

    Prices of Pre-Victorian Furniture

  • About Me About Member Carol & Gary have been dealers in art & antiques for 40 years. Carol has a B.F.A. in Art & an M.B.A. in Marketing. Gary has a B.A. in Business & an M.B.A. in Finance. They began buying & selling art & antique furniture when living in London in the early 1970's. They spent 10 years in Europe, in England, Spain, Italy, & Switzerland, specializing in art, primarily European art of the 15th & 16th centuries. They then moved to New York, where they lived for 18 years, dealing in art & antique European furniture.

In 1997 Carol & Gary bought one of the most famous houses in the world, the Umbrella House in Sarasota, Fl, designed by American architect, Paul Rudolph, in 1953. They restored the Umbrella House, and it was subsequently featured in numerous magazines including Architectural Digest, on the Home & Garden network, & in the book, Classic Modern by Deborah Dietsch. They auctioned the house through Christie's in 2005. It was only the second time that this
premier auction house had auctioned a house as a work of art. Carol & Gary moved to Colorado in 2006, where they've continued to buy & sell art & antiques, both through the New York auction houses that they've worked with through the years, and at the Brass Armadillo Antique Mall in Denver, one of the foremost antique venues in America.

Because there are so many fakes & reproductions of Touluse-Lautrec lithos they have to be examined by an expert first hand. We can't do it using online images. Altermann & Legacy have galleries in the Phoenix area, but I'd call them first to make sure they want to appraise them. If they don't they can probably recommend someone in your area. Gary

Hi Kieth, You're right it's rare & it is collectible. I would estimate its value at $125-175, based not on comps for this machine itself, as I can't find any, but on comps with other '50's collectible record players. Gary

in the topic Antique Table - Louis XV? in the forum Ask Questions Here
Hi Vicki, It's a Louis XV Revival table, mid 19th century, possibly French. Brass is very nice, but, obviously, the top is damaged. Could you please describe the marks on the top of the table? Someone might have some idea about how the top could be repaired, if we knew what the marks are. Thanks. Gary
